A pipeline to connect the wastewater and drinking water plants will cost about $9 million or about $13 million, depending on which plan is adopted, and the city plans to expand the reuse system later, said Daniel K. Nix, the public utilities operations manager for Wichita Falls.
The situation takes on an air of Shakespearian irony once you realize that, as the Las Vegas Review-Journal points out, the North Las Vegas interim utilities operations manager is the person in charge of ensuring the city's water remains pure.
The recurrent items included personnel (salaries and benefits of surveillance officers, data managers, physicians, nurses, etc)., rent (rent, utilities, operation, and maintenance), office and laboratory supplies, transportation, public awareness campaigns and short-term training.
However, more than 50% of the total operating costs associated with such small-scale, water-utility operations are the cost of providing electricity to run water pumps.
"CH Energy Group's regulated utility operations in New York State are similar to our regulated utility operations in Canada," the Fortis chief executive, H. Stanley Marshall, said in a statement.
Citizens' electric utility operations now serve a total of 119,000 customers in Arizona, Hawaii and Vermont.
"The uncertainty is what kills you," Jerry Meek, utility operations manager at Roche Pharmaceuticals in Palo Alto, said.

The company said improvement in the regional economy was expected to increase sales at its utility operations.
A number of other major utility companies have spinoffs or trading and generation units that now earn nearly as much as, or more than, their core utility operations.
In October 1999, Citizens sold its water and waste-water operations for $835 million, and in February of this year it sold its electric utility operations for $535 million.
