Head sizes were measured as the distance between the inner edge of the compound eyes with a micrometer inserted into the ocular of the stereoscope (×50 magnification); the ocular micrometer was calibrated using a stage micrometer (1 unit = 0.028 mm).
Scales were calculated using a stage micrometer (SPI Supplies, ser. no. CS2397).
