Given that predictive SQOL varies in relation to different combinations of socio-demographic, clinical and health service use variables, it would be useful for programs to target predictors specific to the various profiles.
In this regard, it would be useful for programs to create mentoring schemes that follow specific guidelines (Raffington, 2012), hire personnel and counsellors to be in charge of work placements (Cummins, 1973), and find career opportunities in the local community (Raffington, 2012).
However, this practice may complicate ready access to short- and long-term information that would be useful for program evaluation.
Further, it would be useful for programs (and journals) to publish results of programs that were unsuccessful so others may learn from those experiences.
Program managers felt that information about behaviors as well as knowledge was more useful for program planning and evaluation than information from knowledge or attitude questions alone.
This would be useful for program managers, as it would enable estimation of the number of condoms needed for different target groups.
In the Portuguese context, graduates' self-assessments right after completion of the medical course may be particularly useful for program evaluation.
The data presented here suggest that, to better maintain or increase motivation among CHWs, it may be useful for program managers to examine the four sources of CHW motivation identified in this study: individual, family, community, and organizational (Table 3).
The approach is also useful for program and policy planning where specific diagnoses are not the central focus, and where policy makers could often make better use of comprehensive information that yields rates of child health problems and their consequences (e.g., for the allocation of funds or creation of programs).
