In an experimental study, we investigated how the presentation of cognitive learning aids, as well as the availability of self-monitoring questions affect the frequency of use of cognitive learning aids in a multimedia learning environment.
Malignant hyperthermia is an emergency event that lends itself to the use of a cognitive aid.
1, 2 Typically, in patients with dementia, such therapies focus on maintaining quality of life despite the presence of deficits that may even progress over time. 1, 3, 4 Existing cognitive rehabilitation programs rely on structured feedback and repetition, as well as on the use of cognitive strategies and external aids, such as calendars or notebooks, to help optimize functioning.
The use of checklists and cognitive aids can improve standardisation, teamwork and overall performance in operating theatres and during crisis situations [ 43, 176– 181], and several have been described for use in general [ 45, 182] and obstetric anaesthesia [ 44, 183, 184].
The inexact nature of cognitive processes that are inherent in MDM necessitated the incorporation of "cognitive-aid structures" and the "cognitive appropriation processes" architectural components.
We also found that although cognitive traits measured with the subjective numeracy scale (Fagerlin et al., 2007b) and the Cognitive Reflection Test (Frederick, 2005) correlated with judgments on food safety, the judgments were improved with the use of visual aids regardless of cognitive traits.
Checklists have been long used as a cognitive aid in various high-stakes environments to improve the reliability and performance of individuals and teams.
A wide variety of approaches might improve CPAP adherence in the real world: education to CPAP, additional support, telemedicine approaches, use of hypnotic sleep aids, cognitive behavioural treatments [ 16]; among possible interventions to enhance CPAP use, we used telephone support, increased interaction with sleep provider, planned follow-up.
While Lin [ 2] also found that the use of hearing aids was positively associated with cognitive function, Young Choi et al. [ 15] demonstrated significant changes in the total scores measured on the visual verbal learning test (VVLT) after six months of hearing aid use, compared to a control group of nonusers.
