Oligonucleotides were spotted using an MG1000 spotter (MicroGrid, Boston, USA), immobilised and stored according to the manufacturer's instructions (Schott Nexterion).
Ultra Gaps II coated slides (Corning, Schiphol-Rijk, The Netherlands) were spotted using an OmniGrid 100 spotter (Gene-machines, San Carlos, CA, USA).
Dilutions were spotted on aminosilated glass using a 375 μm diameter stealth solid pin (ArrayIt, Sunnyvale, CA, USA) with a VersArray ChipWriter Pro system (Bio-Rad Laboratories, HerCAles, CA, USA).

Antibodies were spotted on 64-array ONCYTE Avid nitrocellulose film-slides (GRACE Bio-Labs, Bend, Oregon) using a Piezorray Noncontact Microarraying System (PerkinElmer, Wellesley, MA, USA).
Probes were spotted onto 11.9 cm x 7.8 cm positively charged nylon membranes (Hybond™- N+Amersham Pharmacia Biotech, Munich, Germany) using a 96-pin tool (0.4 mm pins) with a BioGrid Spotting Device Roboter (BioRobotics, Boston, USA) as described.
