In the SEDS Study, we have chosen to use the dose recommended by the IOM (i.e., 600 IU/day) as our lower reference point against which to assess the effectiveness of sun exposure in raising 25(OH D levels, and an upper dose of 2000 IU/day as this has been previously shown to effectively raise 25(OH D levels without evidence of toxicity over a prolonged period of administration [ 28].
