"upon thinking about" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
It is used to introduce a reflective or thoughtful moment. For example: "Upon thinking about our future, I became overwhelmed with a sense of hope and excitement."
Once that conversation has dried up, to a degree, then perhaps bringing this in and, sort of, on looking upon that, thinking about, you know, "are there any of the factors that they would feel they'd want to talk about" and so forth.
One student commented, "At the very least, you will get grad students thinking about, and acting upon, their career options earlier rather than later".
Worth thinking about, indeed.
