Changing the translation from "upon the deep" to "upon the face of the deep" (and to "upon the face of the waters") is no great accomplishment.
Upon the face of the two ordinances, there was a plain conflict.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters".
So the second sentence becomes: "And the earth was without form, and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters".
It seems to him that the dark has become darker, a dark so dark that it is like the darkness upon the face of the deep, before the Lord moved upon the face of the waters.
Genesis begins with darkness upon the face of the deep, until God encompasses this void to change it.
And the Earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
Now I knew that they originated in distant storms, which moved, as it were, upon the face of the deep.
And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
It demands that we who act do so with a firm gaze upon the face of the other.
Gazing upon the face of your newborn child with such an unconditional sense of love and wonder that your heart might literally burst inside your chest?
