One of the few large communities in the Lublin Uplands, it was founded on the estates of Polish chancellor Jan Zamoyski (1542 1605) that lay on the trade route between the Black Sea and northern and western Europe.
It is lowest in the North German Plain, where it fluctuates from 20 to 30 inches (500 to 750 mm); in the Central German Uplands it ranges from nearly 30 to about 60 inches (750 to 1,500 mm) and in the Alpine regions up to and exceeding 80 inches (2,000 mm).
In upland woodlands, it is often the climax species.
Because the moat receives upland drainage it may be a fen.
It rises from glaciers on Mount Elbrus in the Greater Caucasus and flows north through narrow gorges, with many rapids, to the Stavropol Upland, where it turns westward in a broad, marshy floodplain to enter the Sea of Azov.
During the early Bronze Age, reestablishment of hazel scrub in the study area implies reduced use of the upland, although it is not clear whether this is local or indicative of the wider landscape.
Compared to B. b. nikolskii, which may occupy the more southern reaches of the same upland ranges, it is somewhat larger as well as darker, less distinctly yellowish and more heavily streaked.
Like Upland cotton, it is a cultivated species and represents approximately five percent of the worldwide cotton production.
To boost the yield potential of upland rice, it is necessary to identify cultivars with improved yield and other desirable agronomic characters, to overcome the global problem of hunger and starvation, especially in African countries [ 7].
At a time of austerity it is very hard to demonstrate the sunny uplands, but it's not half as grim as it would have been without us".
The subtitle here is "Conflict in the Uplands" and it refers to the author's contention that grouse shooting, as an organised activity, is systematically breaking the law by killing hen harriers, rare and protected birds of prey which sometimes take grouse chicks.
