For neurogenic dural vasodilation, we initially started with a current intensity (monitored on an oscilloscope, model 54601A, Hewlett Packard, Palo Alto, CA, U.S.A). of 100 μA and increased with 50 μA steps until a maximal level of dilatation was achieved, usually at 200 μA.
It has been proposed that in some cases a range of values for a single video coding parameter can be searched for a quality maximum by setting up an interactive control (e.g., a slider) and allowing subjects to adjust it at will until a maximal level of video quality is perceived [10].
The process continues until a maximal portion of the observed probe signals are explained, or for a specified maximum number of iterations.
For the MVV12, subjects were instructed to "move as much air as possible" and were given feedback from the investigator until a maximal level of ventilation was obtained.
