Since non-random distributions can arise through either (1) spatial aggregation ('over dispersion') or (2) regular spacing ('under dispersion' – tending to some uniform pattern, such as a grid), we needed to further test specifically for spatial aggregation.
Transmission electron micrographs of the Gd2O3 MSN particles showed this pattern as well as uniform size distributions and good dispersibility with little aggregation (Fig. 1c e, inset).
