Women's choices and decision-making abilities can often be constrained by their unequal responsibility for unpaid care work.
Unequal responsibility for work in the home socializes children into thinking that these duties are women's only roles, thereby curtailing generational change and narrowing girls' ambitions.
Unequal caring responsibilities also leave women much more commonly subject to the lower status and pay associated with part-time work or with long breaks from employment.
