Any connotation of religious or paranormal beliefs makes many scientists uneasy, says Chris French, a psychologist at Goldsmiths, University of London, who studies anomalous experiences including altered states of consciousness.
"The situation is calmer today, but people are still uneasy," said Moctar Mariko, president of the Malian Human Rights Association.

"When people hear terms like leak, tritium, and groundwater, and when you put those words together in a single sentence, the normal person is going to get uneasy," said Ralph Andersen, senior director for radiation safety and environmental protection at the Nuclear Energy Institute, the industry's trade association.
"I can understand why some people would feel uneasy," said Gordon Scobbie, a senior police officer who leads efforts to sharpen the force's social media presence and who was present at the meeting of Facebook, Twitter and the company that owns BlackBerry, Research in Motion.
