A lot of people in Maricopa like Arpaio and don't seem to mind his methods: the elaborate humiliation of jail inmates, including the unconvicted; the startling number of lawsuits over jail brutality, and the very large settlements paid by taxpayers in some of those cases; the relentless pursuit of undocumented immigrants, even at the expense of fighting serious crime.
Apparently GOP seeks to fight crime among undocumented immigrants specifically at the expense of effective overall crime prevention programs, even when undocumented immigrants may be less likely to commit crime.
