The Central and Eastern Europe/Commonwealth of Independent States has the world's lowest childhood underweight figures, just 5 percent.
After nutrition intervention, targeted children have improved greatly in the treatment group, decreasing anaemia significantly, stunning, underweight rates (Figure 1).
Macroscopic observation at E14.5 and E17.5 revealed that Adam17ΔZn/ΔZn embryos showed a tendency to be underweight (Supplementary Figure S1B) and shorter in length (data not shown) as compared with the Adam17+/+ and Adam17ΔZn//+ fetuses although the differences were not statistically significant.
Today only 7percentt of Chinese children under age 5 are underweight, whereas the figure for India is 43percentt.
Almost half (46.5%) of children with mothers without education were underweight, while the figure for upper secondary or higher education was 20.0%.
For BMI <12 months after diagnosis and the same comparisons, the summary RRs were 1.23 (95% CI 1.12 1.33, 24 studies) for obese women, 1.07 (95% CI 1.02 1.12, 22 studies) for overweight women, and 1.25 (95% CI 0.99 1.57, 11 studies) for underweight women (supplementary Figure S1, available at Annals of Oncology online).
For BMI ≥12 months after diagnosis, the summary RRs were 1.21 (95% CI 1.06 1.38, 5 studies) for obese women, 0.98 (95% CI 0.86 1.11, 4 studies) for overweight women, and 1.29 (95% CI 1.02 1.63, 3 studies) for underweight women (supplementary Figure S2, available at Annals of Oncology online).
A similar pattern was seen for severely stunted (Figure 4), underweight (not shown) and stunting (not shown).
Children were more likely to be underweight than their parents (figure 2).
