Although there is some evidence that Australian doctors serving rural and remote areas have undertaken professional development and quality assurance activities in radiology after education [15] it is unlikely, however, that most centres will have the necessary expertise to deliver these services unless this is provided as an out reach service by a Radiology Department.
It is important for the clinical educator to undertake professional development and reading outside of their education role in order to inform their clinical teaching.
The government has also agreed to develop legislative amendments to raise the professional, ethical and educational standards of financial advisers by requiring them to hold a degree, pass an exam, undertake continuous professional development, subscribe to a code of ethics and undertake a professional year.
"I know – from personal experience – that some of you embrace this approach, for example welcoming would-be heads of tough schools to understand how you develop a whole-school ethos, explaining how you undertake comprehensive professional development or sharing research about the brains of adolescents.
It will also encourage companies to hire qualified staff who undertake regular professional development.
Professionals felt that it was important for practitioners to be from a similar background as parents [III, VI, VII, IX, XII] and to have received extensive training in various different skills, to undertake continued professional development, and to receive continued support and supervision [I, III, VI, VII, XII].
Sixteen of the 17 services reported that staff are required to undertake continuing professional development (PD) (see Table 2), with seven services reporting that staff received four or five days of professional training in the past 12 months, and nine reporting that staff had received more than five days of PD.
It may be necessary to emphasise that feedback will not impact their employment but is undertaken to support professional development and to help establish developmental plans with consultants or trainers.
The argument persists, either stated or implied, that postdoc compensation is adequate, because it is only a temporary position undertaken for their own professional development.
