When acting as a coating material, the high flexibility of graphene can effectively take on the geometry, pattern, and morphology of the underlying scaffolds.
In particular, the underlying scaffolds of natural product classes provide inspiration for BIOS because they define the areas of chemical space explored by nature, and therefore, they can be regarded as "privileged".
As could be expected from an interaction based approach, scoring success does not seem to rely on similarity of the underlying scaffolds: For the datasets of COX-2, EGFR, ER (antagonist), SRC, thrombin and P38, on which PADIF performed reasonably to excellent, the diversity of scaffolds in the active ligands and the used references was analysed with Scaffold Hunter (Fig. 5) [34].

Micro-computed tomography (μCT) detailed the pore structures of the newly formed tissue and suggested that the structure of tissue-engineered bone was controlled by the underlying scaffold geometry.
In particular, the underlying scaffold or fibrous network is treated as an inert anisotropic material, and the cross-linking cells or proteins are treated as isotropic materials capable of growth.
If microtubules did indeed provide the underlying scaffold on which ICP0ΔRING protein accumulated in linear arrays (Fig. 5, 6), then inhibition of microtubule polymerization with nocodazole [57] should recapitulate the effect of ICP0's RING finger domain.
These are not as frequent and often are energetically less favorable compared to canonical base pairs, thus rendering the 3-dimensional tertiary structure of an RNA to be dominated by the underlying scaffold of the secondary structure.
In this work we investigated if fibrin matrix from clotted blood can act as a soft surrogate which nullifies the influence of the underlying stiff scaffold, thus promoting chondrogenesis irrespective of bulk scale scaffold stiffness.
The important distinction is that, in flies at least, most proteins, including the PCM fraction of D-PLP, are recruited into the PCM by an underlying PCM scaffold, whereas DSpd-2 and Cnn appear to form this scaffold.
We coated ∼5 μm thick GLAD SiO2 UTLC media with <10 nm thick ALD metal oxides (Al2O3, ZrO2, and ZnO) to decouple surface chemistry from the underlying GLAD scaffold microstructure.
We considered three magnetic configurations: (1) external permanent magnet ring placed around the leg near the joint; (2) four small permanent magnet pins implanted in the bone underlying the scaffold; (3) four similarly implanted stainless steel pins which magnetization was induced by the external magnet.
