For the year to the end of September, Tui said that underlying earnings of £724m were 15.4 per cent higher than last year, beating its own guidance of an increase of between 12.5 and 15 per cent.
Analysts polled by Reuters Estimates had, on average, expected underlying earnings of $5.1 billion.
With revenues of nearly £45bn last year, Vodafone reported underlying earnings of £13bn, and a global profit of more than £3bn.
In the half year ended Dec. 31, 2005 it brought in underlying earnings of $1.16 billion.
Travis Perkins, the FTSE 100 building supplies firm that owns the Wickes DIY chain, closed down 6% at £18.45 after it warned that underlying earnings growth for the year would come in at the lower end of expectations.
The company said that including a benefit of 2p from tax provisions, it expected underlying earnings per share for 2015 of around 38p – the same level as in 2014 and slightly down from an earlier forecast.

Analysts were disappointed after the company posted a 48% decline in third-quarter core underlying earnings at CropScience, even though it only accounts for 24% of the whole business.
Tui, based in Hanover, Germany, reported underlying earnings before interest, tax and amortisation (EBITA) of €180m (£155m) for its third quarter to 30 June, up 1.1%.
