Such a novel mechanism of invasive tumor cell dissemination, which has also been proposed for podoplanin [39], may be clinically important in the most prevalent ductal breast carcinoma subtype as these tumors rarely undergo dissemination by a recognizable epithelial to mesenchymal transformation [42], [43].
