These synapses have a unique ability to tune synaptic transmission to a wide range of firing frequencies, the prevailing physiological range being about 0.5 4 Hz (Bischofberger et al. 2006), whereby responses can undergo a pronounced frequency facilitation (Salin et al. 1996).
