Electron microscopic analyses have revealed exquisite ultrastructural images of cell structure, but this technique typically requires extensive processing procedures that are labor intensive and time consuming.
In response to cytostatic agents, ultrastructural images of endodermal cells engulfing dying interstitial cells have been captured [57], and very recently molecular evidences have shown the induction of autophagy both during starvation and regeneration [58].
