To bridge these two approaches, Gillmann's typology of networks (i.e., loose alliance, orchestrated alliance, lead partnership, and lead agency) is used so that the result of egocentric measurements through SNA (degree centrality, betweenness, closeness, and eigenvector centrality) of networks in both cases, drawn in principal-component network mode, will fall into one category of the typology.
To deepen the structure and the main characteristics of the differentiated typologies of networks, a multidisciplinary approach, included the social network analysis, is considered to be appropriate.
A key contribution of the paper is conceptual and methodological: the development of an original typology of knowledge network properties to trace out changes in the form of networks as they evolve over time.

Current common typologies of support networks may not be sensitive to differences within and between different cultures.
However, it is doubtful as to whether the common typologies of support networks are 'fit for purpose' in all of the studies in which they are utilised.
Preliminary validation of the cluster solution was assessed by examining the association between the new typology and the Wenger Support Network Typology, and difference in distribution of network types between migrants (i.e. those participants living in the UK) versus non-migrants (those participants living in South Asia).
However, in the gerontological literature there has been little attention paid to the suitability of network typologies for use in other cultures, particularly in those where multigenerational living arrangements are common.
