The majority of such approaches evaluate interactome topological features, and typical examples are node degree and clustering coefficient, both based on the levels of connectivity of each node.
For example, inherited disease genes have previously been found to have a significantly lower clustering coefficient than randomly selected genes [ 22], but we find more typical or even higher values when considering groups of functionally similar genes.
The authors characterized this network type as 'small-world' based on two measures, typical inter-vertex separation (path length, L) and the degree of grouping between network vertices (clustering coefficient, C) [23].
This network shows a typical scale-free degree distribution (Figure S1), where the average values of the node degree and clustering coefficient are 7.04 and 0.126, respectively.
All four RINs have properties typical of small-world networks (Atilgan et al., 2004; Haiyan and Jihua, 2009; Taylor, 2013), with significant higher clustering coefficient compared to a corresponding random network and a higher mean short path length (Table 2).
% clusterCoeff = clustering coefficient for bad cells.
In panel (b) we report the clustering coefficient.
At low exponents, below 2.333, the clustering coefficient becomes high.
The following also increase: geodesic distance, clustering coefficient and local efficiency.
Clustering coefficient C (right column) and local efficiency E l (left column).
We find that the clustering coefficient is not consistently correlated with the normalized qc.
