Debris landslides are one of the most widely distributed types of landslides in the Wenchuan earthquake area.
Earthquakes can trigger all types of landslides, and triggered landslides contribute significantly to landscape morphology and lowering in tectonically active areas.
The most abundant types of landslides triggered in earthquakes are fairly shallow, disrupted falls and slides in rock and soil; larger, deeper landslides are less common but contribute significantly to total landslide volumes.
While generally all types of landslides are characterized by a strong limitation to space (Egli 1996), in this case there was an obvious clustering of landslide-caused road incidents in the areas southeast of Stuttgart, northeast of Konstanz, and in the northeastern part of Baden-Württemberg (see upper right map in Fig. 4).

In order to avoid a complex classification, types of landslide material were simplified, also because rock and debris are always mixed in the landslide deposits.
In order to describe the characteristics of landslide dams in Italy some specific analysis on the different types of landslide movements and their volume, the dam longevity, the main triggers and their geographical distribution were carried out.
A larger dataset of Type VI landslide dams which are composed of glacial and glaciolacustrine sediments would facilitate the statistical evaluation of the significance of the various input parameters, and appropriate stability thresholds for these particular types of landslide dams might then be determined.
