Typecasting can be used when referring to the assigning of a particular role to an actor, or when referring to the assigning of a particular data type to a variable or fragment of code in programming. For example: The director was engaged in typecasting for the new musical, seeking out actors to fulfill the roles outlined in the script. The programmer had to use typecasting to assign the correct data type to a string of code before it could be executed.
