In addition to the analyses described above, a computational analysis of decision-making patterns was conducted in order to characterize the trial-by-trial decision making patterns on the IGT.
Although the primary goal of phase II trials is decision making rather than inference, obtaining an estimate of the true response rate is often of interest, particularly when the trial was deemed successful and the new drug accepted for further evaluation in phase III trials [ 7].
If the reported outcomes are relevant and measured consistently to allow comparison of interventions across trials, such trials can inform decision making.

The fact that in both studies subjects failed to compensate for this loss of accuracy by increasing search time appropriately as the number of items increased, even with feedback (speed and accuracy) on every trial, implies impaired decision making.
