It's triage time.
We recorded the following variables: triage time and date, triage score, triage destination, time of initial physician assessment, investigations ordered, and referrals made.
Days of the week were grouped into two categories: weekdays (Monday through Friday) and weekends (Saturday and Sunday) based on triage time.
Data extracted included triage time, date, treatment area, time to physician initial assessment, investigations ordered, disposition, and return ED visits within 14 days.
Time of the day was grouped into three categories based on triage time: daytime (8 a.m.-4 p.m ., early evening (4 p.m.-12 a.m ., and midnight (12 a.m.-8 a.m).
It is important to highlight that there are multiple factors that affect this timing: how busy the department is at any particular point in time, the first contact time or triage time, manpower and staffing issues, as well as the availability of ECG machines throughout the ED, among other factors.
