Over the time a subject traverses the horizontal 'clinical distance' (indicated by the horizontal red and blue arrows in Fig. 3A) from the time-of-diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment to a time-of-diagnosis of dementia (indicated by vertical lines in Fig. 3A), the vertical 'distance travelled' along the Aβ load biomarkers curve is small.
This problem is probably due to the spatial resolution (3 5 km), which is too coarse to simulate the fine-scale orographic horizontal advection of the plume traversing the Abukuma Mountains.

The root tip of the primary root maintained an angle of 136° to the horizontal as it traversed the barrier whereas the lateral roots adopted an angle of 154°.
