In 2009, 607 TALD cases were reported among European residents traveling in EU/EEA countries, of which 363 (60%) were related to domestic travel (Table 1).
First of all, households' socio-economic characteristics influence daily travel times and can thus be considered to be a determinant of intensive travel (Table 4).
They avoided open habitats during day time travel but were indifferent to the habitat type during night time travel (Table 4).
Multivariate logistic models 1 3 were adjusted for sex, age, marital status, education, occupation, income, place of birth, years of residence in Hong Kong, and recent China travel (Table A1).
Trips taken in the evening (5 pm through 12 midnight) had reduced odds for long travel compared to trips during business hours; trips at night (midnight to 8 am) were more likely to entail long travel (Table 4).
The serovars most commonly isolated from patients with nalidixic acid resistance were Enteritidis phage type 1 (PT1), Virchow, Newport, and Enteritidis PT21; the first 3 of these were also commonly associated with a history of foreign travel (Table).
In contrast, Scottish small producers are characterised by a low number of movements, with a low number of pigs per batch and shorter distances travelled (Table 1, Figure 5).
Compared to ruminant assigned cases, poultry assigned cases are more common in winter, in adults, in females, in postcode sectors with population densities greater than 500 people/km2 and more common in individuals reporting overseas travel (Table 2).

The 13 HIV-infected persons who were HEV seropositive (IgM or IgG at ALT spike) were similar to the 181 who were HEV seronegative in terms of demographics, military duty status, laboratory data, and overseas travel (Table 1).
