In our microarray analysis, numerous genes involved in host auxin biosynthesis as well as auxin transport and response were down-regulated in eH-inoculated plants (Fig. 6).
Taken together our results show that epigenetic regulation and transcriptional control related to auxin transport and response are critical during early to mid stages of pine embryogenesis and that important events during embryogenesis seem to be coordinated by putative orthologs of major developmental regulators in angiosperms.
This suggests that polar auxin transport during the gravitropic response is an important determinant of the RGA in rice plants, as it is in Arabidopsis.
In either case, elevated transport suggests an SOS response is occurring in a futile attempt to supply the axon with functional mitochondria.
However, if the protein is terminally misfolded, a secondary response is to transport these proteins to the cytosol, which contains all the catalytic enzymes necessary to selectively target (i.e. via ubiquitylation machinery) the misfolded proteins for proteasomal degradation (Meusser et al., 2005).
Therefore although both models reveal how changes in the transport side affect the economy, their response is given from two distinct perspectives.
