In 2012, based on the above considerations, nPOD initiated a programmatic expansion, called nPOD-Transplantation, in which patients with T1D who are recipients of pancreas transplants consent for directed, postmortem donation to the nPOD program.
This analysis was based on 677 recipients of allogeneic islet transplantation who consented to the reporting of their data to the CITR, with 214 recipients in 1999 2002 (early), 255 in mid-2003 2006, mid-2003 200607–2010 (recent); 423 (62%) cand from North America, and 208 (38%) were reported from the European and Australinn JDRF sites.
Human MSC were isolated from the bone marrow of normal individuals undergoing bone marrow harvest for allogeneic bone marrow transplantation following informed consent, according to institutional guidelines under the approved protocol, as described previously [8].
