The data demonstrate that knowledge mobilization extends beyond knowledge translation; knowledge mobilization includes the negotiated utilization of knowledge – a balanced power form of collaboration.
The first CL was created to improve language pedagogy, but the concept has been adapted to the needs of industrial technical documentation, foreign language translation, knowledge engineering, and speech interfaces.
New strands of research focus on knowledge translation, knowledge brokerage, and other interventions to increase uptake of evidence.

The research design outlined below captures the nature and development of the DF role, DF involvement and embedding within the research teams, and the enactment of the DF's important translation, knowledge-brokering and boundary-spanning roles.
