A17 NEW YORK/REGION B1-8 Judge Bars Transit Strike; Leaders Try to Ease Tension A State Supreme Court justice, Jules L. Spodek, issued an injunction that bars New York City transit workers from striking and orders fines -- two days' pay for each day on strike -- if they do.
Invoking the state's Taylor Law, which prohibits strikes by public employees, Justice Spodek barred transit workers from striking and ordered union leaders not to incite their members to strike.
But Mr. Toussaint, insisting that he would not be bullied by the mayor, said that a walkout remained a serious option, even though state law bars transit strikes.
"If a strike vote is taken we will go straight to court and ask a court for an order to keep that from happening," said Mr. Bloomberg, noting that the state's Taylor Law bars transit workers from striking.
