Data receiving transactions sample the external environment periodically and write it into the databases.
Interest measures (Hahsler et al. 2005; Tan et al. 2004) are used to describe the likelihood of an itemset or an association rule (X → Y). "Support" describes the proportion of the transactions (samples, subjects) containing the rule (X and Y), whereas "confidence" of a rule is the proportion of all transactions having X that also have Y.
Most audits give close inspection only to large or unusual transactions; just a sample of smaller transactions are examined.
