Many factors limit alcohol screening in both clinical and community-based settings, including social acceptability regarding alcohol use, limited provider time, and lack of training on alcohol screening and interventions [ 37, 38].
We predict statistically-significant, medium-sized multiple mediation of the effects of the mental simulation intervention on follow-up alcohol consumption by the theory of planned behavior and motivational change scores and significant mediation of the effect of self-control training on alcohol consumption by state self-control change scores.
We also expect that the effect of self-control training on alcohol consumption will be mediated by perceptions of subjective self-control capacity.

To enhance dissemination of alcohol skills training to physicians, we developed an easily transportable curriculum that meets the general requirements of successful web-based courses [ 49] and adult learning theories [ 35] that could be actively distributed, easily integrated into existing curricula and used by internal medicine faculty educators.
This finding suggests that future studies assessing clinician recognition and intervention rates should utilize more sensitive measures such as clinician or patient exit interviews or direct observation, and that future training efforts should address documentation of alcohol disorders in the medical record.
