There are a number of studies that explored theoretically the case of weakly correlated neurons and employed perturbation methods to relate output spike train correlations to input correlations [46 52].
We consider two theoretical models of neural populations that exhibit strong spike train correlations among the neurons within the population, even in the absence of a sensory signal.

After ANN training, correlation coefficients (R2) of both engine performance values for testing and training data were very close to 1. Similarly, root-mean-square error (RMSE) and mean error percentage (MEP) values for the testing and training data were less than 0.02% and 3.5% respectively.
After training, discrimination thresholds for objects with stiffness and brightness values incongruent with the training correlation were larger than for congruent objects.
