President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday tapped Robert Lighthizer, a former Reagan administration official and longtime international trade attorney, to be his U.S. trade representative.

While it is not a consumer champion - something else people find difficult to understand - it can investigate complaints and award compensation against legal service providers such as solicitors, barristers, licensed conveyancers and trade mark attorneys.
"The alleged actions of the defendants is an affront to everyone who remembers the fallen and to the family members who continue to endure pain from the lives that were lost among the first responders at the World Trade Center," Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa said in a statement.
The industry paid for services provided by ChemRisk and Exponent, Inc. through its trade association's attorneys.
Senior executives, including Mr. Baxter, allowed Mr. Lederfeind's clients to trade frequently, the attorney general said, citing a June 1998 memo addressed to Mr. Baxter.
"There are enormous economic benefits of hosting large sporting events such as the Super Bowl, but the disturbing reality is that such gatherings in other states have drawn criminal rings that traffick young women and children into the commercial sex trade," said Indiana Attorney General Greg Zoeller.
He invoked an unusual provision of California law that permits individuals to file unfair trade cases as "private attorneys general".
Similar lawsuits have been filed in recent months by parties including a nonprofit ethics group, a restaurant trade group, and the attorneys general of Maryland and the District of Columbia.
