The prototype implementation shows a result that car acceleration responses are related with the track displacements in low frequencies.
At 70 km/h the track displacements agree almost exactly and at 200 km/h the displacements are a very good approximation of the measurement.

Figure 3 shows the vertical track displacements of a grade 6 track for three different travel speeds: 15, 30, and 90 km/h.
Open image in new window Fig. 2 a Power spectral density (PSD) of the track generated for grade 6 track and b corresponding vertical track displacements as the input for the dynamic analysis.
(6 Power spectral density of the track generated for grade 6 type of track which corresponds to the track displacements is shown in Fig. 2. The track condition is selected to be worse in order to test suspension capabilities with the highest available amplitude of inputs.

The mean square displacement for DCL cells was calculated by taking a sliding temporal window (of 1 to 25 frames) and computing the track displacement as the 3D Euclidean distance between initial and final window frames.
Typically, 200 500 tracks per movie were obtained and analyzed with respect to track displacement (measure for processive, i.e. straight, motility as opposed to undirected random walks) and mean speed.
A finite element analysis model using the derived time history function based on the empirical dynamic wheel load was used to predict the train-induced track displacement.
Tracking is illustrated in Supplementary Movie 5. Results were assembled and post-filtered (threshold for track displacement ≥1.2 µm) in KNIME and MS Excel and bulk statistics analyzed and displayed as box plots in GraphPad Prism 5 software (Figs. 3b, c, e i, 4i m and 5f j).
The numerical simulations and field test results were compared with German and Japanese regulations for train-induced track displacement, and the speedup effect of a tilting train was compared with that of a general train (EMU).
