It is desperately difficult to trace ownership of funds among the huge flows of illicit finance that cross national borders - a new report by Global Financial Integrity places the annual volume in excess of $1.1 trillion.
Kremen's team of specialist financial investigators have since traced huge transfers of funds which suggest Cohen is sitting on several hundred million dollars.
"K2 could not accurately trace the flow of funds in individual cases from a media supplier to an agency to an advertiser without revealing names and, therefore, declined to do so," the report said.
In a technique known as "round tripping", money that has been obtained either legally or illegally is transferred into an offshore company that hides the identity of the true owner, thus hindering attempts by authorities to trace the source of funds.
In contrast, the Sabin Institute's work duly traces the flow of funds intended for vaccinations across the supply and delivery chain and as they trickle from the national level down to more decentralized units.
He has previously complained publicly about a lack of cooperation by Russian and American authorities in tracing the funds.
The existence of the account had allegedly been uncovered by the French government agency, Tracfin, devoted to tracing undeclared offshore funds, the site said.
The report also traced G20 governments' funding of fossil fuel exploration overseas.
