:) QUESTION FROM ANDREW: On the reading the whole New Yorker topic: I do feel the guilt of missing great reports so I usually try to read most of the magazine!
Teeth, for example, is a topic I don't care about at all, beyond no root canals, please, yet the book is among the best introductions I read.
Expressing a point of view is always legitimate, and if you're doing it because you're genuinely passionate about a topic, I don't think anyone will have a problem with that.
So while I'm not claiming there won't be bad impacts from global warming — of course there will be, I spent my whole lifetime writing on that topic — I don't see it as a civilizational threat.
Why not turn the full reporting firepower on a single topic one week (and by a single topic, I don't mean the usual newsweekly newsstand bait like "When Jesus Rode a Gay Dinosaur That Had Breast Cancer to See a Historically Famous American President").
One other topic: I don't want to compare different losses ( parents, children, siblings, friends, spouses — because all grief is overwhelming ), but I have noticed that even Joyce Carol Oates discusses thoughts of suicide in her recent book over the loss of her husband.

In immersing myself in this topic, I didn't only look at the work of scientists.
