If funding for UK Higher Education is to continue to be driven by REF evaluations it is obvious that the way research outputs are classified by research panels will impact upon the way staff are recruited for academic positions so for those of us starting out we need to think doubly about the impact of our research outputs on our careers and how those outputs may frame us as researchers.
