As the main form of communication between birds (who think in a flock mentality) is vocalization, trying to hinder "normal" vocalizations (which just happen to be more frequent in the morning and at dusk) can be socially harmful, which can in turn lead to physical harm.
Behavioral indicators of stress are vocalization, attempts to escape, kicking and struggling [ 6] and some studies have documented the adverse effects of transportation stress on horses [ 7, 8].
