The 3D laser scanning system has the advantage of being quick, non-invasive, and easy to use unlike other 3D hard tissue imaging systems, such as Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), which are both expensive, time-consuming, and with CBCT presenting a radiation risk (Kau et al., 2007).
