Tiny Post, which debuted at Tiny Reviews, rebranded itself at the end of August, when it added some new features, including placing text onto pictures, to take advantage of the fact that it was picking up a lot of people using the site to create memes — which, unlike bots, are one of the more fun side-effects of the social media revolution.
"Twitter is how we hear about new movies and share our tiny reviews before the credits finish rolling," Biz Stone, Twitter cofounder, said in a statement.
There's also TinyReview, another app for adding words to pictures.
Tiny Review was one of TechCrunch's favorite startups from the third 500 Startups Accelerator class that graduated in February.
Tiny Review is "Instagram for Yelp reviews", or a fast and fun way to say what you think about a place.
"Instagram for reviews" Tiny Review allows people to express what they feel or think via mobile in three lines or less.
Rebranded to Tiny Post in August 2012 from its original name of Tiny Review, it started life incubated in the 500 Startups program in February 2012, where it was praised for being an "Instagram for reviews".
The breakdown of this batch's demographics shows this to be a diverse group of companies, as 8 of the startups have female founders: 72Lux, DressRush, Gizmo, LoveWithFood, MeMeTales, Talkdesk, Tiny Review, WeddingLovely, and fifteen of the startups have international founders (UK, Croatia, Canada, Brazil, Netherlands, Australia, Portugal, Bulgaria, Estonia, Russia, Japan).
Asked whether there was anything to be done about the gap between the number of books published (still enormous, despite the downturn) and the number of books reviewed (tiny), he responded: Thomas Mallon, a superb novelist and critic, once told me the dirty little secret of book reviewing, including at TBR, is that in fact too many books are reviewed.
