We proved that the weak tie effect exists in the PPI network and demonstrated that the density is insufficient to characterize the topological structure of protein complexes.
The module size distribution of predicted protein complexes for each compared methods on the DIP network has been shown in Figure 5. From it we can conclude that the major trend generated by our algorithm is very similar to that of the complexes in the benchmark set, which suggest that the definition of protein complex based on the weak tie effect is reasonable.

Different approaches were also used to capture positive and negative outcomes, suggesting that evaluators need to decide at what level they are evaluating and how to tie effects back to the project's contribution.
Addition problems were also created to avoid potential experimental confounds, such as tie effects (Ashcraft 1992) and potential perceptual confusions in L2 listeners (Fuson 1990).
"The old-school-tie effect is nowhere near what it once was," Mr. Greene said.
Depending on the availability of MODIS scan angle information, we offer rigorous and simplified calculations to account for the bow-tie effect.
An examination of the MODIS scan geometry suggests that the latter underestimation is attributed to the coupling between a MODIS imaging artefact referred to as the "bow-tie" effect and the typical calculation used to retrieve the sum of FRP from the MODIS CMG fire products.
Due to sensor geometry and the Earth's curvature, MODIS scans are elongated so that at the scan edge with high view zenith angles, the surface area actually viewed by one pixel is twice as long and 4.8 times wider than at nadir (the so-called "bow-tie" effect, [44]).
Finally, we note that the hourglass effect (sometimes referred to as the "bow-tie" effect) has also been observed in other complex biological and technological systems that exhibit hierarchical modularity and that are subject to evolutionary pressure or optimization tradeoffs.
But, the weak ties effect for PPI networks remains to be tested.
Notice that our algorithm is quite different from those based on discovering the dense subgraphs because it makes use of the weak ties effect.
