Hydrocortisone is the most common steroid prescription in septic shock but the threshold of initiation, frequency and discontinuation are varied.

Early or late presentation of HIV (by CD4 count or WHO clinical stage of HIV infection) was defined according to thresholds for initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) as indicated in the 2011 fourth edition of the Guidelines for antiretroviral therapy in Kenya [ 14].
