Glucose > 10 mmol/L (later referred to as "severe hyperglycemia") is considered to be the threshold for treating hyperglycemia (American Diabetes Association 2013), and it has been associated with postoperative complications in several studies (Akhtar et al. 2010).
The ACOG recommends that a value of 95 mg/dL be used as a threshold for fasting hyperglycemia [ 4, 25].
