Mr. Moran chose to focus on rural airports, naturally, but never mentioned that his party could have prevented all of these cuts by simply agreeing to a plan that combined more thoughtful reductions with some revenue increases.
"We can substitute some of the sequester for more thoughtful reductions, and hopefully we will do that in the next three months".
Mr. Obama and Republicans in Congress designed the cuts in 2011 to be devastating as a way to prod passage of a more thoughtful deficit reduction approach, but no agreement has been reached.
Thus, unless partial, thoughtful content reduction is pursued in curriculum design, a teacher may be better off having students at least learn some declarative knowledge rather than be overwhelmed.
What is needed is enactment of a thoughtful deficit-reduction package, to be implemented as the economy recovers.
"These cuts are not ambiguous, across-the-board reductions but thoughtful, line-by-line reductions in specific programs … and affect nearly every facet of the federal government," says Representative Hal Rogers (R-KY), chair of the spending panel.
Instead, what we need is a balanced and thoughtful approach to deficit reduction.
One goal, she says, is to encourage Canadians and ultimately their government to support "ambitious and thoughtful commitments to emission reductions" at a global negotiating conference set for Paris in December.
