"thoughtful article" is a correct and usable phrase in written English.
It can be used to describe a piece of writing that shows evidence of careful consideration and reflection. For example: "I found this article to be a very thoughtful exploration of the topic."
Roger ODells very thoughtful article (My View, MIT News, December 2004) opened up some similar thoughts that I had, but he doesnt go far enough.
