Halliday (2007: 363) sees this fluidity between nouns and verbs as an instance of complementarity, a particular type of indeterminacy where we can "[interpret] what goes on either as a construction of objects or as a flow of events".
While these results do not allow for any firm conclusions about the relationship between performativity and indeterminacy, it provides evidence that performative verbs can express at least one type of indeterminacy.
Thus, in the absence of a definitive syntax, especially where there is an overlapping type of indeterminacy, individuals are forced to rely purely on a conceptual interpretation in order to aid their decision.
